Ice cream warms the heart, no matter what the weather.
I TOTALLY agree! And so does Tess Dobson's whole family, particularly her mother, who moved Tess and her brother Jordan from Texas to boring old Schenectady, New York, in the middle of winter!
Tess' mom lives on a roller coaster of emotions, and on an upswing decides to buy an old ice cream shop in a very neglected part of town. She dreams of transforming it to a legit business in a once thriving city. Tess, her brother, and her mother settle into life in a "retirement village" and their hearts really are warmed by ice cream, and the new neighbors and friends that they make.
I enjoyed this story for two reasons. One: I LOVE ICE CREAM. Two: It took place in city I know a little something about. It is always neat to read references to local areas. Rose Kent actually lives in Niskayuna (just outside of Schenectady).
I don't know if the happily ever after is something I can see happening as quickly and as easily as it did her, but hey... who doesn't love a cherry on top?!
