I am going to write about two books in this post. They are both early reading chapter books by very popular authors and they both were recognized by the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for an author or illustrator for beginning readers.
The first book, Ling and Ting: Not Exactly the Same is written by Grace Lin. I blogged about another Grace Lin book (Where the Mountain Meets the Moon) a few months back. What I like most about this book is the ethnic diversity of the characters. The book is about identical twins who are trying to find their own identity. Just like the title states, they are not exactly identical. This book was an honor book for the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award.
Bink and Golly is written by a chapter book favorite, Kate DiCamillo, along with Alison McGhee (who has written some really cute picture books). The short stories follow two companions, who don't always agree, and seem to be very different kinds of girls. Their freindship always triumphs over any disagreements they may have, and the illustrations are adorable. Bink and Gollie was the Award winner for the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award this year.
